Queen of the Sun

  1. I've heard so many great things about this movie. I've been beekeeping for 3 months, and have seen first hand how pesticides are killing off bees. My hive was almost destroyed because of spraying. I wish more can be done to stop the overuse of pesticides.

    1. Mimi, I've seen your posts on your bees, and I am so jealous! I wish I had the space for a hive, but my balcony is just too small. You should put up signs in the neighbourhood stating that there are bees at work, and that spraying is detrimental to them.

As simple citizens, it often feels like we can't do much about the over-use of pesticides and the general degeneration of industrial farming. But we can actually take very concrete actions: just by growing your food organically, you are showing your neighbours and readers that it can be done.

As consumers, we send a clear message when we choose to buy organic or nearly organic produce. Just buying produce from a small farm -even if it is not organic- tells the agro-industry that you disagree with their practices. Smaller, local farms tend to use less chemicals because of their proximity to the consumers, and because chemicals are expensive (let's face it, farming is not exactly a high returns career). Smaller holdings are also usually diverse enterprises, that give bees and other pollinating insects a balanced variety of plants to choose from.

Never forget:consumers can vote with their wallets.
